I am formally trained in the traditional techniques of figurative art, and studied drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking with many eminent teachers, including Thomas Newbold, Leonard McCombe RA, Prof Humphrey Ocean RA, Marcus Cornish, Vincent Desiderio and Kip Gresham.
I paint in oils and usually use the indirect painting method, building up the painting in a series of transparent and opaque layers. While it gives an intensity of feeling it has less spontaneity than painting a la prima. As in life itself, in painting one is faced with constant compromise and choice.

Commissions

I relish the challenge of painting a life-size portrait of some grandee in full fig but I also enjoy painting children. I prefer to paint them absorbed in the business of childhood, so they are observed, rather than staring defiantly out of the picture plane. I have painted pets, as well as Supreme Champion breeding stock.
I am happy to travel. Please contact me for prices and further details.
